This Byron Glacier Elopement was a “Plan B” day that turned into a super fun day full of adventure!

Both being from Canada, Danielle & Matt road tripped-to Alaska and brought their trusty canoe with them. We had a plan to go north to a cabin for their ceremony and a canoe trip around the lake. Afterwards we’d take a helicopter out for some photos.

Well, sometimes weather plans or personal delays change things and we have to come up with “Plan B”! The day before their elopement we came up with a game plan – and in turn we still had a super awesome day!

We started out in Portage Valley. After some finishing touches on their adventurous attire, they took their canoe out and had a blast paddling around in the drizzling rain. They had the lake completely to themselves. It felt like we had the whole world with no one else in it.

Having Alaska’s beauty all to yourself is something truly special.

After a few photos we packed up to head to our second location that brought us a few surprises…

The hike to Byron Glacier was cloudy with a little drizzle. When we reached the glacier we picked a spot for the ceremony over the boulder field up ahead. Once we started hiking – BOOM! Hurricane winds and downpour rain. Wow! What intense weather all at once!

We nestled into a spot that (partially) shielded us from most of the wind while Danielle & Matt said their vows. It was so sweet to see the peace and gentleness between them amidst the storm above.

Once they finished their ceremony and we made our way back down to Byron Glacier… and then the sun came out!

Just before we left to hike out we were bid farewell with a rainbow – how beautiful!

So even though this day didn’t turn out as originally planned, Alaska gave us a beautiful day that went from plan B to plan A.
